Madison Area Antique & Classic Boat Cruise

August 3rd and August 4th 2018

The Madison boat show is making a significant shift this year. The changes involve more opportunity to cruise the Madison lakes and less time on the docks.

We have heard for years from boat owners that they enjoyed the cruising in their boats rather than sitting at the dock (dreaming about actually using their boats). There has also been thought-provoking questions from past participants that were hard to answer, “Why do I need to pay to display my boat, shouldn’t it be at least free since I am providing the entertainment”?

We have decided to address these issues for the 2018 Madison event!

Like in years past, we are keeping the Friday tour, with lunch and dinner provided during the fun day of cruising. However, Saturday will involve an optional boat parade around Lake Waubesa and Monona without an actual static boat show. Gone will be the longing to take your boat off the pier knowing you cannot leave until the boat show is over. This change is for all of us who enjoy cruising more than sitting at a boat show (and paying to display your boat).

For Friday’s activities (registration is required), the cruise will take us around the Madison lakes with a break for lunch at the newly renovated University of Wisconsin Union. There will also be some fun side excursions before we head back to Lake Waubesa for cocktails and dinner. The public will have the opportunity to view the boats while on tour and at Christy’s Landing’s piers during cocktail hour and dinner (before the sun disappears).

Saturday’s optional activities will commence mid-morning with an informal gathering of those interested to enjoy the lakes. The loose agenda includes a boat parade with possible stops to swim, tie-up, and just use our boats on the Madison lakes. There is no registration or agenda other than boating with friends and family.

If you plan to attend Friday’s activities, please register online. Deadline for registration is Friday, July 27th (need final counts for lunch and dinner). For Saturday’s activities, there is no registration (just come and enjoy). The accompanying Schedule of Events and Map should help answer additional questions.

We realize the drastic changes for 2018 may turn-off some boating enthusiasts (not intentional). However, we believe these changes will make Madison the place for classic and antique boat owners to come if they want to spend a weekend boating.
